Welcome to Day 23 of my 2020 Book Spotlight Countdown! For more information about this series, please read my introductory post here. Today, I’m celebrating Ulysses by James Joyce!
2nd of 2020
On the 16th of June 1904, Leopold Bloom goes for a walk. He also goes to a funeral, goes for lunch, visits a museum, and ends up at a hospital where a group of young men are drinking. At the same time, he is painfully aware, yet in denial, of his wife’s affair. In Ulysses, Joyce takes the reader on a tour of colonial Dublin, parodying every successful form of literature that came before him, and somehow at the same time, modernising The Odyssey.
Find my series of ‘reviews’ as I travel through this book here.
If you’re up for a challenge, and like modernist literature, be brave and dive into Ulysses.
