Welcome to Day 20 of my 2020 Book Spotlight Countdown! For more information about this series, please read my introductory post here. Today, I’m celebrating The Vegetarian by Han Kang!
5th of 2020
Yeong-Hye, the eponymous vegetarian, is not understood by her family. One day, she had a dream, and she stopped eating meat. Her vegetarianism progresses from a dietary choice to an obsession, plunging her into disordered eating and poor mental health. This story, told from the perspectives of three different people close to her portrays her descent into illness. Poignant, moving and tragic, The Vegetarian is not an easy read, but it is an important one.
