What I’ve Learnt in a Year of Lockdown

At this point, it’s been 13 months since the UK’s first national lockdown was announced. It somehow seems like much longer, and not that long at all, anyone else feel that? Thanks to the breakthroughs with the vaccine, and a pretty fast-paced vaccination program, it does now look like we’re on our way out of the dark. Of course, the UK is extremely privileged to have such vaccine access, and I know that the rest of the world isn’t necessarily in the same position as the UK right now. Rather than getting too optimistic and looking to the future, I wanted to talk about the things I’ve learnt in the last year of the pandemic.

Since my last post a week ago (oops, missed another book post, sorry!), the UK has stepped up its policies regarding the pandemic, and has now officially restricted when it’s permissible to leave the house. If you’re not out for your one daily exercise (which must start and end at your house, you cannot drive anywhere to exercise), for essential shopping like food, toiletries and essentials, for medical purposes, or for essential work or care duties, you should not be out. Social Distancing: Routines and Activities

So, I’ve been gone for a week. I took a week off to get my things in order. Naturally, with the COVID19 pandemic, I’ve been making some big lifestyle changes in the last week or so, as the situation has got worse. I’m hoping to resume my usual posting routine (lifestyle Wednesday, books Saturday, possible extra post Mondays) from now (though this post is a day late!). Given how unusual the last week has been, I didn’t feel like writing another post in the Baby Steps series, though I’d like to reassure you that, save a couple of minor slips, my Lent goal to only buy vegan food items is going well.
