Upcyling Attempt #1 | BABY STEPS

Last week for my lifestyle post, I talked about my plans to upcycle some things that can’t be donated into reusable makeup wipes and another face cloth! I’ve given it a go and wanted to give you a bit of an update on how it went. I won’t keep anyone in suspense. It went… not as I hoped. I think what I’ve created will be functional, but pretty it is not. Still, I’ll give you a quick rundown on how I made them, in case anyone else wanted to give it a go (and probably make something much better!)

Lockdown Lifestyle Changes to Maintain | BABY STEPS

I’ll be honest, I really struggled to think of a topic for this post! I want to keep doing my Wednesday lifestyle posts, and talk about sustainability, but it feels weird at the minute seeing as everything I would usually talk about seems so irrelevant. But then I realised there have been a couple of things I’ve done during lock down that I hope will help to have an impact on my lifestyle for a long time to come.

Almost a year ago, I decided I was going to try being pescatarian. I’d been buying only cruelty free makeup and toiletries for about six months already, and it seemed like the next step towards a more sustainable life. I decided I’d give up meat for Lent: it was a set time period, long enough to be challenging, but not so long that it would feel as though the end was never in sight. My main reason in deciding to continue to eat fish during my experiment was just that I knew I wouldn’t manage to eat all the fish in my freezer before the beginning of Lent and I didn’t want it to go to waste. It was surprisingly easy, and I think the only time I slipped up was when I forgot marshmallows weren’t vegetarian and had them in a milkshake.
