Reading Habits Book Tag

I’m bringing you today a tag I found on Becca’s blog, BeccasBookmark! Welcome to the Reading Habits book tag!

  1. Bookmarks or random pieces of paper?
Bookmarks for sure! If I don’t have a bookmark, I dog ear or leave it split. I know, I’m sorry.
  2. Stop reading randomly or after a chapter/certain amount of pages?
I usually stop at the end of a chapter, because I find that easier than remembering where I was on the page and what was going on at that moment. I usually have like a rough goal for where in the book I want to get to, but I don’t usually have like a precise amount that I want to get through. Just like, roughly 1/3 of the book or something.
  3. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Not really, though I’m hoping to create one when I move out! At the minute, I just read either in bed, or on the sofa.
  4. Do you eat or drink whilst reading?
Not really. I might have a drink, but it isn’t like a part of a reading ritual for me, it just so happens that I’m also drinking at the same time. I usually put my book down to eat, to avoid marks on the book and also because I find it tricky to eat with one hand and read with one hand!
  5. Multitasking: music or TV when reading?
I sometimes do, but it has to be something that’s less interesting to me than the book, or I will lose focus. I prefer to have the TV on over music, because if the TV is on, it’s probably something Mum’s chosen, whereas if it’s music, I chose it, and I’m not good at choosing to listen to something that I’m not actually that interested in.
  6. One book at a time or several?
Usually one, but recently I’ve been dabbling in multiple. I might have one ‘project book’ on the go, and then read regular books alongside it.
  7. Reading at home or everywhere?
Thanks to COVID, home. And generally, I prefer to read at home as well. I tend to have a podcast or music on when I’m travelling, and there’s not a lot of time I spend outside home on my own where I could read.
  8. Reading out loud or silently?
Oh god, silently! Absolutely! My brain reads much faster than my mouth could speak, so I’d either be really slow, or would be jumbling words and just talking nonsense (which I do anyway more often than I’d like).
  9. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
It’s nice to keep it looking new, but I don’t sweat it. If the spine breaks, it breaks. Until I joined book twitter, I didn’t even realise that the spine breaking conversation was a thing!
  10. Do you write in your books?
I do annotate sometimes, but I do it on transparent post-its rather than on the pages themselves so if I ever want to sell the book or if I change my mind about something, it’s removable.

I’m tagging everyone reading this!
