Girl, Woman, Other | 9 | 2020 Countdown

I have previously received PR products (review copies of books) from Penguin.

Welcome to Day 16 of my 2020 Book Spotlight Countdown! For more information about this series, please read my introductory post here. Today, I’m celebrating Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo!

9th of 2020

Girl, Woman, Other is told in 12 sections, each focusing on a different woman or non-binary person. Through the diversity of the characters in Girl, Woman, Other, Evaristo is able to explore many different facets of the Black, British, female experience. The 12 protagonists are all in some way connected to one another, and it is common for previous characters to make appearances in other segments. Poignant, funny, contemporary and eye-opening, Girl, Woman, Other has a lot to say.

Find my review (including relevant trigger warnings) here.

If you liked Queenie, Dominicana, or Red at the Bone, or if you’ve been reading a lot of race theory and want to see how that can translate into fiction, check out Girl, Woman, Other.
