The Topeka School | 14 | 2020 Countdown

Welcome to Day 11 of my 2020 Book Spotlight Countdown! For more information about this series, please read my introductory post here. Today, I’m celebrating The Topeka School by Ben Lerner!

14th of 2020

Politically apt, witty, and insightful, the final book in Lerner’s loose auto-fiction trilogy brings us back to a character first introduced in Leaving the Atocha Station. The line between protagonist and author is very loosely drawn here, with Lerner’s own family, experiences, politics and beliefs pulled into the story. A very interesting, if self-centred commentary on modern-day America can be found within these pages.

If you liked My Struggle by Karl Ove Knausgaard, Outline by Rachel Cusk or Weather by Jenny Offill, Ben Lerner might be for you.
