Welcome to Day 5 of my 2020 Book Spotlight Countdown! For more information about this series, please read my introductory post here. Today, I’m celebrating Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams!
20th of 2020
Longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction, Queenie tells the story of a young Black British woman, Queenie. Having just broken up with her boyfriend, Queenie is struggling to come to terms with being single. Through the course of the book, she navigates through toxic relationships, mental health issues, a family that struggle to understand her, problems with the job that isn’t what she imagined, and racism in Britain. Queenie’s story is moving, insightful, and funny in equal measure.
If you liked Girl, Woman, Other and want to read more about the experiences of Black British women, Queenie is a great pick.
