Sunshine Blogger Award

Intisar asked:

  1. What’s your favourite trope?
I don’t really like tropes at all! I don’t tend to read genres that rely heavily on tropes.
  2. What’s a book you wish you could read for the first time again?
[PR relationship] Moby-Dick! It’s such an intricate, strange, experimental book. To be honest, I think I’d get more out of reading it for the second time than I would if I were to somehow read it for the first time again, but it’s such an experience to read that I’d love to go through it blind again.
  3. Which hyped book/series do you love?
I don’t really read very may hyped books to be honest! One that I used to love when I read a lot of YA was [PR relationship] The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare.
  4. Which hyped book/series do you hate?
Most of them I haven’t read, but I’m pretty sure I would hate the Sarah J. Maas books if I were to read them.
  5. Who are your auto-read authors?
[PR relationship] Jessie Burton, perhaps! I still usually research writers before I buy books though.
  6. Where is your favourite place to read?
In bed, or maybe on the sofa! Preferably with a cup of tea next to me.
  7. Can you read with music or noise in the background?
I can, but I more often read in silence because I do sometimes get distracted by the TV if it’s on.
  8. What do you enjoy the most and the least about blogging/book social media as a whole?
Most: connecting with other readers and making friendships based on our love of books!
Least favourite: the drama that can happen on social media.
  9. Preferred format: ebook or physical book or audiobook?
Physical for sure! I don’t get on with audiobooks that well, and I like the feeling of holding physical books too much for eBooks to take the crown.
  10. Do you like to re-read books?
I do, but I have so many unread books to read that I’ve been focusing on those as much as possible and limiting my rereads until my TBR is reduced.
  11. Favourite song of 2020?
Betty by Taylor Swift! (A surprise to nobody).

Danni asked:

  1. Have you set a GoodReads Reading Goal for the year? If yes, how many books are you hoping to read?
I set a goal of 70 books, and I’ve pretty much met that target! I think I’ll stick to 70 again next year.
  2. What has been your favourite book of 2020 so far?
Probably Pride and Prejudice I guess! It’s definitely up there in the top few!
  3. What book on your TBR are you most looking forward to reading?
Tricky one!! I’m going to go with one that I’m going to read really soon and say [PR relationship] A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes.
  4. Do you have any pets? If yes, please post pictures! (I want to see your cute animals)
    I don’t, sadly! I wish I did though.
  5. Who are your auto buy authors?
    Already answered that one above!
  6. What are your favourite books from your childhood?
I used to love the Rainbow Fairy books when I was really young!
  7. Describe your dream reading space.
Cozy window seat with lots of cushions, some kind of magical tap that produces whatever drink I fancy at the time, and a supply of biscuits! Some plants nearby, maybe rain outside…
  8. What is your favourite bookish merch?
I don’t buy bookish merch really! I like bookmarks because they’re useful and I’m always misplacing them so it’s useful for me to have a load around. Posters and decorative things I don’t really like to be bookish themed though.
  9. What are your biggest bookish pet peeves?
People who lump classics together as ‘boring books by old white men’. While a lot of the Western canon is written by old white men, there are classics by people who aren’t old white men, and I think it’s really interesting to read classics to see where a lot of contemporary inspiration stems from. Plus, classics really isn’t a genre, and there’s a lot of genre diversity within “classics” that I’m sure there is a classic for everyone! Some of my favourites (a mix of classics and modern classics) are Pride and Prejudice, Frankenstein, [PR relationship for following 3 books] Ulysses, Things Fall Apart, To The Lighthouse and The Color Purple.
  10. How do you feel about DNF’ing a book?
I don’t do it often because I do tend to read about books before I buy them, and I’m fairly good at guessing what I’ll think before I read a book, but on the rare occasion I don’t enjoy it, I am open to DNF’ing.
  11. You can only read one genre for the rest of your life, what are you choosing, and why?
Tricky question! My most-read genres are either contemporary lit-fic or historical fiction. I think I’d pick contemporary if I had to pick one, because I could still learn about historical time periods by reading contemporary books from that time period, e.g. Jane Austen.

My questions:

  1. What are you currently reading? What are your thoughts so far?
  2. What’s a genre you’d like to read more of?
  3. Have you started thinking about your 2021 reading goals yet or is it way too soon?
  4. What’s a book that brings you comfort to read/think about?
  5. What’s your ideal reading conditions? Location, drinks, snacks etc
  6. What’s a book series you need to start?
  7. What’s the most recent book you rated 5 stars?
  8. Any upcoming releases you’re excited for?
  9. What’s your favourite thing about autumn?
  10. Do you pay attention to any book awards? Which ones?
  11. If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would buy/do with your winnings?
