Why did you start blogging? & Why have you kept blogging?
I started my blog AGES ago, when I was in school, but it never went anywhere. I came back to it towards the end of my first year at uni, for something to fill the gap after exams were over. Since then, I’ve been doing it on and off. As for what has kept me blogging, I think I’ve kept blogging this time (I’ve been regularly posting through 2020, but I’ve gotten really into it the last couple of months) because of the people I’ve met. I’m getting more engagement on my blog, which is a real motivation to keep going.
What is your favourite type of blog post to write?
I’m going to go with reviews. I’m an English student, so I’m naturally quite analytical when I’m reading. I have to hold myself back for reviews sometimes though.
What are your top three favourite blog posts you wrote?
1. Review & Recommend: The Topeka School by Ben Lerner. A very recent review, and the one I enjoyed writing the most. I let the English student jump out!
2. (AD, gifted) Review & Recommend: Funny Weather: Art in an Emergency by Olivia Laing. My first ever ARC, and also my first nonfiction review. Loved the opportunity to get it for free in return for doing what I already do: reviews!
3. I love all my Baby Steps posts, but I think my favourite is Baby Steps: A Reintroduction. It’s the one celebrating my achievements so far, so it’s nice to look back on.
What are some of your favourite things to do to relax?
Reading, of course. Gaming and chatting to friends as well. I tend to keep my evenings for gaming and Skyping friends to have a chill out after catching up on uni work and blog management.
What are three of your favourite things?
Tricky question! Marcella Hazan’s Bolognese recipe (I make it with veggie mince, it’s delicious! Can also be made vegan if you like), flowers against bright blue skies, and a well-made cup of tea.
What are your proudest blogging moments?
I was really happy when I reached 100 followers on my blog. It’s not all about the numbers, but it means a lot that that many people are interested enough in what I’m writing to hit follow. Along the same lines, I feel proud of myself every time I get a nice comment saying my review was interesting, or I’ve inspired someone to look something up.
What are your hobbies outside of blogging?
I already mentioned gaming, and of course, Netflix gets an honourable mention. I’m also into cross-stitching at the minute, and starting to learn a bit of embroidery. Reading as well, which goes without saying. Usually, I like to go swimming, and go on little trips with friends, but that’s on hold at the minute.
Describe your personality in three words
Chatty, excitable, supportive. I hope, anyway!
What are your top three pet peeves?
Having to wait for someone who’s late, especially if it’s just the two of us meeting.
People telling me to do things I was already planning to do. It just makes me want to not do it.
Someone not putting in the same amount of effort into a relationship (of whatever sort) that I do.
What’s something your followers don’t know about you?
I’m a qualified scuba diver!
